Class 3 have spent a week learning all about moving & growing in science.

They have looked at the different types of skeletons and identified different animals that have them, they have looked at different x-rays & why they're taken. The children have also learnt the names and locations of some of the bones in the human body and had a go at remaking a skeleton of the human body. Finally they researched the different kinds of joints and muscles we have in our bodies, where they are and how they work.

 

Class 3 have been learning all about John Lennon & The Beatles.

The children researched John Lennon's life and had a go at writing a biography all about him. They also looked at photo's of The Beatles to see how their image changed over the years they were famous, they looked at the famous artist - Andy Warhol and recreated some popart style pictures of themselves and The Beatles using paint and computers.

 

Class 3 have been learning all about Australia for their latest topic. They have learnt where in the world Australia is, used maps to name the oceans and seas near Australia & locate some Australian towns and cities. They have learnt about how the seasons are different to those here, what the weather is like in different parts of Australia and researched all about what The Great Barrier Reef is. For their homework they researched a native Australian animal and have created a piece of art work all about The Great Barrier Reef.

 

For the RE unit this half term the children have been researching different areas of Christianity and creating a powerpoint about them. The children have focused on Methodist, Church of England and Catholicism for their research.

 

Class 3 have been learning all about solids, liquids & gases in science.

The children have learnt all about the properties of solids, liquids and gases and the differences between them. They also carried out an investigation to find out what happens to solid wax when it is heated up. They finished off by learning about the meaning and differences between melting and dissolving.

 

 

Class 3 had their first clarinet lesson after February half term. They learnt how to put the clarinet together, how to put the reed in and how to blow it correctly to get a sound out of it. They will continue to learn how to play the clarinet until the end of the year.

 

 

 

Class 3 have been learning all about The Normans.

They have learnt about who the Normans were and why they came to England. The children worked in four groups to produce a persuasive speech and poster to try and persuade people who should be the next King after Edward the Confessor. They also learnt all about The battle of Hastings and The Bayeux Tapestry. The children even made a model of a motte and bailey castle.

 

 

We have spent a week learning all about Hot and Cold in Science.

We have used our hands as thermometers to describe the temperature's of different objects. We also experimented with ice and learnt all about thermal insulators and thermal conductors.

 

Class 3 have been learning all about villages, towns, cities and regions in the UK.They've learnt about the differences between villages, towns and cities and the types of buildings you'd find in them.

They have labelled maps with near by villages, towns and cities on and choosen their own town and city to research as homework. They worked in small groups to research a given region and produced an information poster all about it, they even made models of buildings you find in villages, towns and cities and finally they looked at OS maps, the symbols they use on them and what they mean.

 

This half term in PE we have been learning all about balances in gymnastics. We have balanced on different parts of our body making narrow or wide shapes, we even used the apparatus to help us balance on and to make routines with a partner.

 

We have spent 2 weeks learning all about the Black Death.

We've learnt about what the Black Death was, when it happened, how it came to this country, how & why you got the Black Death, symptoms & cures of the Black Death and what happened as a result of the Black Death.

We've used the internet to research the Black Death, written story openings set in London during the Black Death and created a class book all about the Black Death.

 

This week we have been doing a topic called 'Good to be me'. We have written New Year Resolutions for ourselves, we have written all about ourselves and our families, we've learnt about what we are all talented at and we have designed a crest to represent our families.

       

 

We had a fantastic joint Christmas party with class 4.

 Class 3 made their own Christmas cards and calendars to give to their family as presents.

     

 

We have been busy doing some Christmas themed baking.

We made 3 Christmas cakes and decorated them, mince pies, chocolate reindeers and chooclate shapes to put in some crackers which we are going to make.

On Friday 2nd December we visited our old school building to see how the building work is coming on. It looked very different to how we remembered it being.

 

We have spent a week learning about keeping safe.

We've learnt about hazards and risks and been able to spot them in different situations & make suggestions for how to make it safe again, we've done lots of drama about keeping safe and how to make a 999 call and what to say to the operator.

 

Class 3 have been looking at friction and resistance in science.

They have learnt about how forces act upon things & Sir Isaac Newton and his discovery of gravity.

They have carried out a number of practical activities including moving jelly using pencils to see how friction effects it when it's dry and has cooking oil on it, making and testing paper helicopters, stretching elastic bands and testing different surfaces to see how friction effects the movemnet of a car.

 

This year for Children in Need we dressed up as movie stars/characters. Can you guess who we are?

  

 

We spent a week learning all about The American celebration of Thanksgiving.

We found out what Thanksgiving is, when it's celebrated, why it's celebrated, what is eaten at the celebration and what life would have been like on a boat traveling to America in the 1600's.

  

 

We've learnt all about the Vikings.

We've written stories about viking raids, researched viking gods, longboats, viking homes & religion and made information posters about them, we've looked at where the vikings came from and what and how they traded, we had a go at writing using viking runes, learnt about the story of Thor & we even made a large model of a viking longboat.

As a treat class 3 got to decorate their own gingerbread man using icing and sweets.

We have been learning all about Habitats and food chains in Science. 

We have looked at different types of habitats and the characteristics they have, how different animals are adapted to their habitat, food chains, what producers & consumers are, we even did a science investigation to find out which habitat woodlice like the best and we used the internet to research different types of animals in a certain habitat.

  

Our latest topic has been all about Pablo Picasso.

We have drawn Picasso style still life pictures using oil pastels, we used photographs of different views of our faces to create Picasso style portraits and we used Mr Picassohead website to create computer generated Picasso portraits. We also looked at biographies about Picasso to find out about his life.

 

We have been doing a geography topic all about Antarctica.

We have learnt all about the differences between the Arctic and the Antarctic, what the weather is like there, what animals live there, what explorer's wear when they go there and the famous historical journey of Sir Robert Falcon Scott.

  

  

 

Our first topic this year was a local history topic all about Todmorden.

We learnt all about John Fielden & the 10 hour factory act, the murder at the vicarage and different historical buildings and what they're used for today. We even had a visit to Todmorden to see all the places we had been learning about.
