Year 6 Fun Week! 18th July - 21st July 2016

During the final week of the summer term 2016, our Year 6 children enjoyed rafting, bowling, Lazerquest, theme park rides and an Italian meal. Oh, if only school could always be like this!

Cefn Lea Residential Visit, Monday 27th June - Friday 1st July 2016!

Well, it really could not have been much wetter but Class 4 still had a wonderful time in Wales on their residential visit.

Here are some of the “Wet-lights” of our visit:

Class Two Visit The Thackray Museum, Friday 10th June 2016

On Friday 19th June 2016, Class Two visited the Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds. Their focus was “Florence Nightingale”. The day began with the children looking at some artefacts used in hospitals both before and after Florence Nightingale went to the Crimea. Then followed an “expedition” of our own to a hospital on the Crimean Front! After lunch the children enjoyed exploring the other galleries at the museum.

Life of Jesus

On Friday 11th December 2015 Class Two visited St Thomas’ Church in Heptonstall to look at the touring painting exhibition about the life of Jesus. The 12 paintings by Emma J. Horsfield tell the life of Jesus from the revelation to Mary by the Archangel Gabriel  right through to his ascendancy into Heaven. The children really enjoyed looking at the paintings and then looked at the stained glass windows –to see which ones had similar scenes depicted on them.

Class 3 Trip to Danelaw

On Wednesday 4th November 2015 Class 3 children had a visit to “Danelaw” Viking Village which is based at the National Museum of Farming near York. The children lived as Vikings all day! As well as domestic tasks such as firewood collecting, grinding grain to make bread and making oil lamps the “settlers” also had to learn about farming and how to guard their homes against danger. The day ended with a visit to the Longhouse to compare their home with the home of a Viking lord.

Class 4 Residential Trip to Liddington

Class 4 had a fantastic Residential visit to Liddington from Friday 19th – Monday 22nd June 2015. The trip began with a visit to Cadbury’s world on the Friday. On Saturday the children visited the Roman Baths in Bath and then in the afternoon took part in some physical activities back at our residential centre. Sunday saw us visit the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the SS Great Britain in Bristol. We “wound down” on Monday with a visit to the quiet and picturesque village of Bourton on the Water where the children visited “Birdland, The Dragonfly Maze and the Cotswold Car Museum. It was a wonderful weekend and the boys and girls were a credit to themselves, our school and to their parents. Thank you to Mrs Williams, Mrs Eidson and Miss Wai who gave up so much of their own time to enable this visit to take place.

Class 2 Trip to Tropical World

Class Two visited Tropical World, Roundhay Park, Leeds on Wednesday 10th June 2015.. It was a busy day as we took a trek through the rainforest; stopped off briefly in the outback of Australia before taking a quick excursion through the desert!

The children saw piranhas, rare birds, crocodiles, butterflies, bats, spiders, snakes and the new meerkats – allegedly the “cutest family in Leeds”!

Class 2 Trip to St Thomas' Church, Heptonstall

On Friday 6th February 2015, Class Two children visited St Thomas’ Church, Heptonstall to round off this half terms topic about “Churches and Mosques”.

It was a brilliant visit. We were shown around by Graham Kidd the Church Warden and as well as explaining a little more about some of the Church “Furniture” we had been learning  about he also took us to parts of the Church that we had never seen – like the Lady Chapel and right to the very top of the Bell Tower.

Many thanks to Mr Kidd for his time on this morning, the children really enjoyed it.

Class 2 Trip to Ghausia Mosque

On Monday 26th January 2015 Class 2 travelled to the Lockwood area of Huddersfield to spend some time at the Masjid Ghausia (Ghausia Mosque). The children have been studying Islam as part of their RE topic this term which is about comparing Churches and Mosques.

At the Mosque the children were shown many things including learning the washing ritual (The Wudu) and how Muslims position themselves to pray. They were also able to look at the extension work which will make a magnificent looking building once completed.

It was a fascinating visit. The class will also be visiting St Thomas’ Church on Friday 6th February.

Oh Mummy!

On Monday this week, Class Three had a visit to the Liverpool World Museum. The focus of their visit was the Ancient Egyptians (as that is their present class topic).

The children began with a workshop where they were able to examine and handle artefacts from the time of the Pharaohs. Following our lunch we then were able to wander around the Egyptian Gallery at the museum.
