What we’ve been learning so far this year!

Summer 2022 -23

As part of our digital art, our Year One and Twos have been looking at ‘Pointilism’ and how to create this style of art on the computer.

Today we used the PurpleMash art tool to create our own Pointilism sunflower 🌻

In English we have been learning about non-chronological reports. We have been working in a variety of mixed Reception and Year One groups to research plants by reading and exploring a range of non-fiction texts. Our Year One’s have then used the notes we have made and facts we have learned from our research to write our own non-chronological report about plants.

Spring 2022-23

In our Literacy we’ve been reading ‘Eliot Jones, Midnight Superhero’. We thought carefully about different superheroes, their magic powers and their costumes before designing one of our own. We made sure that our costumes and logos matched our special powers and names! We will be using our newly created superheroes to create our own stories about them over the coming weeks.

We’re loving our Chinese New Year themed activities around the classroom! We will be having a Chinese feast and trying out some dragon dancing soon!

We’ve made a start on our ‘Ocean Explorers’ topic.

In Literacy we’ve been reading the rhyming book ‘Commotion in the Ocean’. Our Reception have been playing different rhyming games and our Year One have been finding rhyming pairs within the text.

Geography has been our focus for ‘topic’ work this week. We’ve been learning about planet Earth and it’s 7 continents and 5 oceans. We have really enjoyed using Google Earth and looking at globes and maps in our classroom too.

Some of us have been exploring the loose parts and creating different ocean themed art work using the story ‘Rainbow Fish’ as sparkly inspiration.
